Low-loss and interference-free
KUVAG insulation products for reliable power grids
Transmission networks at the high-voltage and extra-high-voltage levels represent the backbone of our energy supply. They enable comparatively low-loss electricity transmission over long distances. The strong trend towards renewable energy from wind and hydropower and the continuously growing global energy demand mean that there is now a need for improved solutions and innovative concepts.
The objective is always interference-free operation over decades. Therefore, we at KUVAG are continuously optimizing our insulation products, which are used in all areas of power transmission and distribution networks. A particular focus is placed on components and systems for transmission grid nodes, such as high-voltage and extra-high-voltage switchgear, circuit breakers, transformers, and cable systems. Our experts support manufacturers of these systems in the design and development of specific and innovative insulation solutions.
Switchgear
A wide variety of switchgear is used in the medium-voltage range subject to the voltage level, insulating medium (air, gas, vacuum, or solid) and other characteristics. KUVAG has many years of experience designing and manufacturing insulators for a wide range of applications and requirements and now offers a unique product portfolio.
The development and manufacture of insulators for medium-voltage applications have been a core KUVAG competence from inception. Our rich experience from thousands of projects and the ongoing development of our technology portfolio means we can offer our customers top solutions – and on a global basis. Our product portfolio extends from epoxy resin components, SMC parts or composite silicone products to measuring and test equipment. We work every day to expand further our leading position in the service of our customers.
Overhead lines
Overhead lines are used for interregional electricity transmission and local distribution and may well be called the lifelines of society. Insulators of the highest quality are required to guarantee extended durability and reliability. KUVAG composite insulators fulfill exactly these requirements.
Composite insulators have been gaining importance over ceramics and glass in recent years. KUVAG composite insulators combine the findings of many years of research in the fields of insulating materials, GRP rods, end fittings, crimping technology and injection molding. Our products feature high mechanical strength, resistance to erosion and tracking, and outstanding hydrophobicity, even in highly loaded environments. Depending on the insulator’s specific application, we use HTV (high temperature vulcanized) silicones or LSR (liquid silicone rubber).
Transformers
The increased feed of energy from renewable sources is resulting in increased demand for transformer stations. KUVAG continuously manufactures perfected insulation products for the transformers and switchgear in these distribution network nodes, transforming energy from the medium voltage range to the low voltage range.
KUVAG insulators are used in large numbers in transformer applications worldwide and contribute to public power supplies. We use specific epoxy resin systems that exhibit outstanding resistance to harsh weather conditions, erosion, tracking, and aggressive chemicals. KUVAG has stood for reliability for several decades.
