KUVAG – a local supplier worldwide
The reliable, cost-effective and flexible supply of insulators is often a challenge for internationally operating electrical equipment manufacturers. Especially when the same products are needed at several locations on different continents, the focus is on shortening delivery times and increasing flexibility to balance fluctuations in demand. For example, a long-standing KUVAG customer, a manufacturer of medium-voltage switchgear at numerous locations worldwide, was faced with the challenge of supplying several production sites of GIS switchgear up to 24 kV in Europe and China with epoxy bushings.

The international and interdisciplinary KUVAG project team developed a customized solution for the customer, which guarantees short, safe and flexible delivery times for all customer locations. It was possible to draw on the KUVAG production and logistics network between our production sites in Neumarkt, Nepomuk and China. Thanks to uniform technology standards and processes, production can be organized completely flexibly between different KUVAG locations. Regular container shuttles or truck connections enable optimized logistics processes at manageable costs.
The customized solution resulted in a bundled production of more than 100,000 24kV bushings of different types per year at our Xiamen site. Using our container shuttle and setting up buffer storage in Neumarkt, delivery times of less than seven days can nevertheless be guaranteed, even for European locations. Within this project’s scope, the potting molds were developed and sampled at our Xiamen site, local suppliers were selected and qualified, the initial sample tests of our customers were accompanied internationally, and the start of series production was successfully managed. In parallel, packaging concepts and logistics details were developed and verified in test runs. After approximately nine months, the project was completed with great success and transferred to series production. The advantages for the customer are obvious: guaranteed consistent quality worldwide, short delivery times and high availability, attractive pricing thanks to the bundling of requirements.
